A Graduate of Madonna University, and my roommate in school by name Alvin Takon , who loves to cook every minutes of the day, is now getting rewards for his hobby and passion.
Alvin, a Graduate of Public Health, recently emerged as the best cook in a “chef cooking competition” held at Abuja. A competition that lasted for an hour.
The competition was part of the ‘I Create’ skills competition held at the 2018 Food Expo and was hosted by Nigeria’s youngest private chef, Taylor Odeje.
Chef Alvin beat Chef Joy, Chef Rashida and Chef George, who came second, third and fourth respectively, to clinch the star prize in the fast paced competition.
The contestants were required to prepare a three course meal with each course requiring certain ‘most use’ ingredients.
The first round, where they were asked to make an appetiser that must contain cooking cream under 15 minutes, saw Chef George crash out.
Chef Rashida exited in the second round where the contestants were mandated to prepare a main course dish with parsley, peanut, mixed dried fruits, honey and chicken breast in twenty five minutes.
However, it was the third and final round that Chef Joy fell to second place following the dessert preparation with ice cream, spices and fruits in twenty minutes.
While presenting Chef Alvin as the contest winner, moderator Chef Taylor said that he had the best presentation, taste and effectively used the pantry to make his dishes.
He congratulated Chef Alvin for his win and urged him to continue improving his culinary skills as a professional chef.
Chef Taylor also added that Chef Alvin and Chef Joy will be given opportunities to showcase at the ‘I Create’ Skills festival in October, although Alvin will get the head table as the winner.
‘I Create’ Skills organisation is an international Non Governmental Organisation that promotes the use of skills by changing its menial perception by the public.
